Bluegrass music and a beer time machine mark the occasion

Tacoma’s beloved beer bar, sandwich palace, and bottleshop, Peaks & Pints, was founded in 2016 by Ron Swarner and two of his fellow Tacomans: restaurateurs Justin and Robby Peterson. Over its nine-year history, Peaks & Pints has endured, adapted, and evolved. It’s not unlike the craft beer industry itself: beautifully resilient and deliciously resourceful. By now, beer lovers around here should be familiar with Peaks & Pints. It’s kind of awesome.

Through all of the beer industry’s ups, downs, and constant changes, Peaks & Pints stood at the edge of the stage like Ronnie James Dio, throwing goat, rockin’ hard at the forefront of Tacoma’s craft beer scene, encouraging you to bang your head and sing along. All the while, maintaining a witty grin on its face, like it knows something we don’t, fiercely dedicated to the craft but also recognizing that beer is supposed to be fun.

LEGENDS: Ronnie James Dio, rock vocalist extraordinaire, and Ronnie James Swarner, the Dio of Tacoma’s beer scene.

To celebrate its ninth year, Peaks & Pints invites you to a party. Along with live music and plenty of other beers, step inside the time machine in the form of a special flight of beers. Relive that snapshot in history with some familiar old friends. And fear not, the music of choice for the event is bluegrass, not metal.

“The party ignites at 6 p.m. with live music from our honorary house band, The Barleywine Revue, because no Peaks anniversary is complete without a little bluegrass thunder and bar-top harmony.

“Nine years ago on Nov.1st, we swung open the cedar doors of Peaks & Pints — half a day late, twice as thirsty, and straight into a Green Flash + Alpine tap takeover that made Tacoma roar. To celebrate our Ninth Anniversary, we’re cracking open the past with “The Cooler, 2016” — a flight of legends that filled our very first beer cooler.”

  • Brasserie Dupont Saison Dupont — the farmhouse saint that launched a thousand saisons
  • Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Pivo Pils — the Italian-inspired pilsner that made subtlety punk again
  • Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter — Bend’s dark masterpiece of balance and grace
  • Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA — the continuous-hopping cult classic that made bitterness divine
  • Stone Brewing Arrogant Bastard Ale — still sneering, still glorious, still daring you to be worthy

“Step into the time machine, raise a glass to 2016, and toast to nine damn fine years of craft, community, and cedar-scented madness.”
