We all know about those stomach-churning competitive eating contests, like the annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. Though they always involve an obscene amount of eating, those types of contests typically do not include beer.
This Saturday, September 26th in Seattle, Rhein Haus hosts it’s first-ever OktoberFEAST relay race, a consumption competition that includes both food and beer. The event is just one part of the larger Oktoberfest celebration currently underway at Rhein Haus, a notable German bier bar and biergarten located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. See the poster below.
Teams of four will race relay-style through a series of food/beer stations before coming together at the end for a shot of Underberg, a popular German herbal digestive. The top three teams will win prizes.
Here’s the word directly from Rhein Haus.
OktoberFEAST 2015
Saturday, September 26th at 3pm
Rhein Haus 1st annual Oktoberfest food-feast relay race!
A new Oktoberfest tradition starts on September 26th with our first OktoberFEAST relay race. Four stations await teams as they eat against the clock!
Beginning with the first station, each contestant will need to finish one complete dish and a 1/2 liter of Rhein Haus lager before the next teammate starts their station.
After the fourth teammate finishes their dish, the teammates come together for an Underberg toast before the clock is stopped.
The four dishes to be completed by the team include:
- Pretzel bites with spicy mustard
- Nuremberg sausages and a pile of sauerkraut
- Currywurst and fries
- Berliners – German doughnuts with a raspberry jam filled center
Don’t worry if you’re not a big eater – all dishes will be a normal serving size.
The Top 3 teams collect prizes including Rhein Haus swag and gift cards. The 1st Place team also wins the inaugural OktoberFEAST trophy plus a $250 donation to the charity of their choice*
*We reserve the right to ask you to pick another charity if your charity is 1) not really a charity or 2) does something really mean like club baby seals
There is a $25 Entrance Fee per team. All entry fees will be donated to Food Lifeline. Space is limited so sign up ASAP!
