Results were just announced for the 2024 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Each year the beer-judging competition is held in Oxford, Ohio. Breweries from across the nation submit beer for judging. Below we share the list of Washington winners and the list of Oregon winners.
The 2024 competition judged more than 9,000 beers in 170 different style categories. Caveat: we do not know which breweries submitted beer for the competition, so if your favorite Baltic Porter did not win, perhaps it wasn’t even in the running. This year’s Grand National Champion was Third Eye Brewing of Hamilton, Ohio. While it is true that a local, Ohio brewery enjoys a certain advantage in submitting beers for judging, look at the list below; plenty of non-Ohio breweries scored big in this year’s judging. Although I do not know the exact methodology, imagine that each gold medal is worth ten points, each silver is worth five points, and each bronze is worth two points. Something like that.

The U.S. Open Beer Championship judging was held at the U.S. Open Event Center in Oxford, Ohio. The U.S. Open is held in a venue dedicated to the event: a converted 6,000-square-foot Amish pole barn on a small farm. The barn houses a judging area, a serving area, two 450-square-foot coolers, an office, and a nano brewery.

Washington Breweries
Washington’s breweries brought home 16 medals from the 2024 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Over half of them (9) were awarded to Reuben’s Brews. One of those medals was awarded in the Hop Water category. Washington’s runner-up was Sound 2 Summit Brewing, which earned three medals.

Oregon’s breweries brought home 16 medals from the 2024 U.S. Open Beer Championship. The top medal earners were Sunriver Brewing and Deschutes Brewing, each scoring three medals. Four of Oregon’s medals were awarded in the Non-Alcoholic categories: two went to Deschutes Brewery and two to Surreal Brewing.
