New Brewery Opens this Sat. Feb. 10th in Ballard: Distant West Brewing

Poster for the grand opening at Distant West Brewing.

On Saturday, February 10th, Distant West Brewing opens its taproom to the public and becomes the newest member of the Ballard Brewed Coalition. They’ve hosted a couple of soft openings, but this is the official opening and will feature a full lineup of beers from Seattle’s newest brewery. The doors open at noon.

The location might seem familiar to some Seattle beer lovers. It’s the original home of Reuben’s Brews, near the corner of 14th Avenue and 53rd Street (1406 NW 53rd Street). It’s just two blocks up the street from the current Reuben’s Brews taproom and right around the corner from Obec Brewing, Stoup Brewing, and Urban Family Brewing.

If you are already familiar with the name, perhaps that’s because Distant West Brewing recently created a collaboration beer with Burien’s Logan Brewing: Escape the Vault, a deliciously juicy IPA. The relationship between the two breweries was forged when Greg Macaulay, then an aspiring homebrewer, met Logan Brewing’s founders, Michael and Chris. The two came to speak to the homebrew club to which Greg belonged.

According to Greg, the two offered a lot of advice for homebrewers at that time. When Greg reached out about his plan to open a brewery, Michael and Chris offered more advice and guidance.

The taproom at Distant West Brewing is kid- and dog-friendly. No kitchen, but food trucks may be part of the plan. For the official opening this weekend, Distant West Brewing will offer a nice opening-day lineup of beers:

  • Pacific Northwest Pale Ale
  • American Stout
  • Schwarzbier
  • Cream Ale
  • Escape the Vault IPA (draft and cans to go)
  • Also, some taproom-only infused versions of the base beers listed above.
