Latona Pub in Seattle invites you to help it celebrate Earth Day and support a great organization.
For over a decade, Seattle’s Latona Pub has commemorated Earth Day (and Earth Week) by serving only beer delivered to the pub by non-motorized means. Beers are poured from kegs that arrive by hand trucks, bicycles, skateboards, row boats, or any combination of people-powered means. Most breweries use hand trucks to deliver kegs to the Latona Pub (Green Lake) from miles away–as far away as Georgetown and SoDo. No internal combustion engines are involved. The pub also creates ways to raise funds for a valuable earth-focused organization.
Keg Walking
They call it Keg Walking, and breweries from across the city use hand trucks to deliver kegs to Latona Pub. You can sponsor a keg walker and help support a great cause: Washington Wild’s Brewshed® Alliance. Your donation supports local conservation efforts. It also gives your favorite brewery a shot at winning a month-long tap at Latona Pub, not to mention bragging rights.
Keg walks are scheduled on four days, with each walk concluding with beers and high fives at the pub. Then there’s a main event on the Saturday closest to Earth Day. This year, the main event is on Saturday, April 19. The complete schedule is below.
Washington Wild is involved in various important conservation efforts, and the Brewshed Alliance is a partnership between the organization and dozens of Washington breweries and beer-based businesses. The Brewshed Alliance recognizes and celebrates the relationship between good beer and healthy waterways.
“Every April, brewers rise to the challenge of transporting their kegs to Seattle’s Latona Pub, fossil fuel-free, to land a spot on tap for the pub’s Earth Day bash,” says Latona Pub. “It’s a fun way to celebrate our planet, while also supporting Washington Wild’s Brewshed® Alliance, which is all about local brewing industry partners teaming up with Washington Wild to protect watershed health—from peak to pint.”
