Introducing Dalliance Beer, a new kind of beer project out of Yakima

Dalliance is an art project for beer people and a beer project for art people.

A new beer project out of Yakima promises to focus on what’s in the beer as well as what’s on the label. Two of the three people involved in the Dalliance beer project work at Single Hill Brewing, which is where they make the beer. The third member of the team, a local artist, provides the art. The intention is to satiate the beer-drinking public’s desire for a constant stream of new beers. Also, to pursue an artistic vision.

The Launch party is set for 6:00 PM on Friday, January 12th at Single Hill Brewing in Yakima. The next day, Saturday, January 13th at 5:00 PM, they’ll launch in Seattle at Bottleworks. Distribution around Yakima and the Seattle area commences the following week.

“Dalliance is set to produce long-form projects. Think something along the lines of a series that takes a few years to complete,” said Andrew Pytel, one of the co-founders of the Dalliance beer project. “Everything is new, art and beer, each time.”

Dalliance is a term that suggests a fleeting involvement, such as a relationship that is temporal. How long will the Dalliance beer project last? Sounds like the project will take a few years to complete, as explained below. Along the way, Dalliance will introduce beer drinkers to several different beers spanning a range of styles. The first project, The Tarot Project, launches this weekend.

So what is this project all about? Essentially, Dalliance is a private-label beer brand. The three cohorts in the project are Andrew Patel (Director of Customer Experience for Single Hill Brewing), Tristan Karosas (Head Brewer at Single Hill Brewing), and Jamaica Zoglman, a fine artist working out of Yakima.

Andrew Paytel explains a bit about Dalliance’s Tarot Project, “A standard tarot deck contains 78 cards: 56 minor arcana, split into four suits, and 22 major arcana (think ‘The Hanged Man’, ‘The World’, etc.) For our first project, we’re creating a new deck, featuring both major arcana and minor arcana in our four suits: Wings, Cones, Shells, and Stones. Every card will be illustrated to represent the Pacific Northwest where we reside, and every card will be a unique beer.”

“You will find that the Wings suit corresponds to Hazy IPAs, the Cones suit to West Coast styles, the Shells suit to lagers, and Stones to… well, everything else. The major arcana aren’t attached to suits, so expect something special from each of those, such as barrel-aged beers, mixed culture beers, and other, more project-y brews.”

Join them for one of the launch events this weekend. Beginning next week, look for Dalliance beers around the Yakima and Seattle area wherever the best beers are sold. Learn more about Dalliance at the project’s website. Follow along on Instagram.
