Double Mountain Brewery is opening a new location in Portland

Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery is opening a third location. This one is in North Portland’s Overlook neighborhood at the former home of Lucky Labrador Brewing on North Killingsworth Street. The company, based in Hood River, Oregon, is already familiar with the Portland scene. A decade ago, Double Mountain opened its first PDX outpost in SE Portland’s Woodstock neighborhood, focusing on pizza and beer.

Lucky Labrador Brewing closed the Killingsworth location back in 2021, apparently unable to rebound from the pandemic. At that time, it was one of the company’s four locations. Lucky Labrador owner, Gary Geist, still owns the building and says he anticipates Double Mountain will do well at the location, but is now focussing on the success of his three other locations.

“Coming out of COVID, we opened back up there in North Portland, but people were still hunkering down, and business never came back,” Geist said in an interview with Oregon Live. “I got to the point where I thought we should close down and refocus on the other three and lease out North Portland. I have a feeling that Matt [owner of Double Mountain] will do a heck of a lot better there than we ever did, so that’s a win/win.”

Double Mountain says it is getting to work on some light interior updates that will take place within the next few months. The remodeled space will offer the familiar “Double Mountain living room-esque ambiance.” Expect an official Grand Opening date announcement later this spring.

Reportedly, Double Mountain intends to start with a menu similar to the menu at the Woodstock location, offering pizza, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Additional plans will see the menu elevated and, perhaps, see the company start baking its own bread.

Double Mountain intends to pour 15 to 18 Double Mountain Brewery and Cidery offerings on tap. Mostly beer, but some cider too.
