Rail Hop’n Brewing is closing at the end of June. The owners, Kristi and Billy Jack, say a major force in reaching the decision involved circumstances beyond their control. Those circumstances involve ongoing construction around the business, permitting woes, and a landlord who decided to sell the building. For a business that has already seen its share of relocation, it seems that was the last straw. The final day of operations is set for Tuesday, June 30th.
The closure ends a 15-year run in Auburn, during which the brewery operated at three different locations, starting in a garage all those years ago. Along the way, Rail Hop’n Brewing created a friendly and convivial atmosphere that the local community will miss greatly. The outpouring on social media in response to the announcement has been huge and heartfelt.
On social media, Rail Hop’n shared the following statement: “This is a letter we never imagined we would have to write, and one that comes with tremendous sadness. At the same time, it is filled with overwhelming gratitude for the people who made this journey so special.”
“Many of you know that our recent move was necessary to continue growing and serving our community. We poured our hearts, our time, and our personal resources into building not just two, but three locations over the years.”
“Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have brought us to a point where we can no longer continue. Between ongoing city construction, permitting delays, and the sale of our current building by its owners, we are faced with challenges that made it impossible for us to move forward. We simply do not have the resources left to make another move. “
“But it was never about a building; it was about the people. Over the last 15 years, we shared countless laughs, hugs, stories, celebrations, BillyJacks terrible jokes, and tears over some delicious brews. We watched children grow into adults, watched beloved dogs turn gray, and sadly said goodbye to many cherished patrons—including one of our own family members.”
“We also want to thank our incredible staff and volunteers. You were the heart and soul of this place. Your dedication, kindness, hard work, and genuine care for our customers helped create the atmosphere that made this business so special. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for 15 amazing years. Thank you for your support, your loyalty, your kindness, and your friendship.”
