Sixteen years of award-winning, pioneering beers at Chuckanut Brewery.
Few breweries so immediately made a splash. Before most beer lovers around the Northwest had even heard of Chuckanut Brewery, it was winning medals at the most prestigious beer competition in the nation, the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). The brewery opened in 2008 and by 2009 it had won Small Brewery of the Year at the GABF. That was just the beginning. Over the years, Chuckanut Brewery has earned 26 GABF awards, 7 medals at the World Beer Cup, 52 medals at the Washington Beer Awards, and many other accolades.
The thing that originally set Chuckanut Brewery apart was its fierce devotion to European-style lagers. Sixteen years ago, that was exceedingly rare. As a roaring tide of IPA charged in and swamped the craft beer scene, Chuckanut dared to focus on lagers.
The world has finally caught up and today many craft breweries produce good lagers, but Chuckanut Brewery was a pioneer. Before Chuckanut Brewery came along, most craft-brewed lagers were pedestrian efforts at best, and horrid failures at worst. They were often created, with little care, to appease people who said, “I normally drink light beer.” Chuckanut raised the bar and taught craft beer drinkers to expect more.
Enough gushing about one of my favorite breweries. On July 27, 2024, Chuckanut Brewery commemorates its 16th anniversary. It will host events at both of its locations: Burlington and Portland. Here is the announcement from the brewery.

Chuckanut Celebrates Sweet Sixteen on July 27
Can you believe it, yes Chuckanut Brewery is inviting everyone to its Sweet Sixteen birthday on July 27th. Join the party for a fantastic celebration as the brewery marks its 16th anniversary. On Saturday, July 27 from 12-close both South Nut Tap Room in Skagit Valley and P. Nut Beer Hall in Portland, OR will enjoy an exciting day filled with delicious brews, fun games, mouthwatering street food and all kinds of special deals!
