It just might be one of the coolest things that happens each year on the local beer scene. To celebrate Earth Week, Latona Pub serves beer delivered by non-motorized means. That is, all the beer pouring at the pub comes from kegs delivered by hand truck, bicycle, row boat, or other people-powered devices. In the past, 7 Seas Brewing has delivered kegs from Gig Harbor via bicycle. Exactly how will Anacortes Brewing deliver a keg to the Latona this year? I have to assume there will be a sailboat involved. Otherwise, a long bike ride.
This year, Earth week at Latona Pub stretches from April 12 through April 20. On Saturday, April 12, you are invited to join in as they deliver kegs to the pub by foot power. Get more information and sign up at the pub.
At least 16 breweries will deliver kegs to Latona Pub this year. In addition to enjoying beers from non-motorized kegs all week long, Latona Pub invites you to join them for a night of Local Food Awareness (Monday, April 14). All proceeds will benefit Seattle Chefs Collaborative – a local organization that works with chefs and the greater food community to celebrate local foods and foster a more sustainable food supply.

Also, on Wednesday, April 16 Latona will host a benefit for Brewshed Alliance, an organization dedicated to educating people about the importance of clean, safe water sources.
Finally, on Sunday, April 20, Latona will host benefit for Feet First, an organization that helps people learn to leave the car at home and use the transportation method with which they were born.
There are a number of bus routes that will get you within easy walking distance of the pub. The 16 and the 26, for example. Explore those options. Actually, the 26 drops you off right across the street. Metro buses are not motor-free, but they’re a more environmentally responsible transportation option.
