This Saturday, August 27th, at both of its locations, Bickersons Brewhouse hosts a benefit for a cause that is near and dear to its heart. You are invited to join them at either the taproom in Renton or the taproom in Ballard. Raffle and beer releases happening at both locations.
Frank Castro, one of the owners of Bickersons Brewhouse, has battled prostate cancer for the past five years. This Saturday’s event will raise funds for the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Foundation. They’ll earmark the funds for prostate cancer.
Along with a raffle and a couple of beer releases, representatives from the foundation will share information about prostate cancer. Also, Frank will be around to talk about his journey and to answer questions. He will be in Ballard starting at noon and then move on to Renton later in the afternoon.
Raffle tickets are $5. The raffle prizes were donated by local businesses, so all proceeds go to the foundation. Winners will be announced every hour between 2:00 and 4:00.
The brewery will also release two beers. Killing It Kolsch is an award-winning beer that is released annually. Hugonna Like It is the brewery’s first-ever Cold IPA. The name is a playful nod to the latest addition to the family.
Learning to brew was part of Frank’s cancer journey. He started brewing at home while he was in the throes of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I suppose it was a welcome distraction. Frank soon learned that brewing was right up his alley. Eventually it became more than a pastime and more than a hobby.
So, yeah, after spending five years battling prostate cancer, and opening two brewery locations along the way, it’s time to celebrate. Head down to the brewery and taproom in Ballard this Saturday, learn something, and help support the cause. Bickersons Brewhouse (Ballard) is located at 1514 NW Leary Wy, Seattle, WA 98107. In Renton, find them at 4710 NE 4th St #C105, Renton, WA 98059.
