This Saturday, November 5th Black Raven Brewing releases Gunpowder Plot Nitro Porter.
A long, long time ago in a country far away (England), a man named Guy Fawkes, along with his band of Catholic dissident ne’er do wells, plotted to blow up the houses of parliment using barrels of gunpowder. The plan was happily thwarted on November 5, 1605 when Fawkes was caught lurking around the basement of the House of Lords with 36 barrels of gunpowder. Ever since, Guy Fawkes Day has been a day of thanksgiving in England, celebrated in a few different ways over the years.
Here in America, we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day by releasing a beer. Or at least Black Raven Brewing celebrates it that way. Here’s the release info from the brewery.
This annual release nitro porter celebrates the thwarting of an insidious plot attempted by Guy Fawkes & his band of anti-heroes on November 5th, 1605. Fawkes’ goal was to blow up the House of Lords with barrels of gunpowder. This year we plotted closely with Anchorhead Coffee Roasters, out of Duvall, to create a perfectly roasted coffee exclusively for this beer. We soaked a portion of those pristine beans in top shelf bourbon, and cellared the whole shebang on criminal amounts of Theo Chocolates cocoa nibs. In order to unify the flavors and give it that classic British feel we conditioned it on Nitrogen. So quench the conspiracy, light your fires and remember the 5th of November.
ABV: 7.0%
