At Large Brewing Announces its Anniversary and its Closing

Two posters, one announcing an anniversary and the other announcing a closure

“… we are simply ready to retire and start another journey together.”

Nine years ago, At Large Brewing and Taproom opened near the waterfront in Everett, Washington. On May 31st, the brewery will celebrate its anniversary at the taproom. Keep an eye on the At Large Brewing Instagram feed for details about the event.

But that is not the only news about At Large that I’m sharing today. Jim Weisweaver and Karen Larsen, the owners/operators, just announced that the coming year will be the brewery’s last. The plan is to shut down when the lease ends at the end of March 2026. They say the closure is because they’re ready to retire and move on to other things. Cheers to Jim and Karen! Have fun. Relax.

Are they closing or selling? Why, yes, exactly. They say they’d love to see the At Large Brewing continue without them. A three-barrel brewhouse, with multiple fermenters and multiple brite tanks, fuels the taproom. Interested parties should reach out directly.

“As you all know, on May 31st we are celebrating 9 years and entering into our 10th at this location,” said Karen Larsen on social media. “We have made the decision that year 10 will be our last in the industry, not for any other reason than we are simply ready to retire and start another journey together in life.”

“With our lease ending in 2026, James and I began the ‘what do you want to do’ conversations. Numerous conversations always lead to the same determination, that we would not enter into another lease agreement, allowing us the time to travel.”

“The past nine years of us making beer and great friends while watching At Large grow into a place where you all come to enjoy pints with friends, family and coworkers has been remarkable. We are looking forward to this final year with all of you and will cherish it always.

I am sure this announcement brings many questions to mind, which we will be able to answer in person.”

“A few I hope to clarify now. When is our last day? March 31, 2026. Are we selling or just closing down? We would love to see At Large continue on, so selling will be ideal. Now that you are all aware of both possibilities, we will now focus on, finding the best scenario for At Large.”
