Aslan Brewing introduces Monarch IPA – a newfangled unhazy flagship IPA

“What’s old is new again,” or so the saying goes. I do not mean to suggest that hazy, juicy IPAs are going away, but those of us who pay attention to such things have noticed a trend. It’s not about something new, it’s about something old making a comeback: clear, non-hazy IPAs.

Given the evolution of hops over the past few years, there’s room for all sorts of new flavor profiles in this new generation of good-old, unhazy IPAs. I like this trend a lot. A 2023 IPA might look like a 2013 IPA, but it need not taste like it.

Today, Bellingham’s Aslan Brewing announced the arrival of its new flagship, Monarch IPA. Descriptors include lemon, grapefruit, pine, and herbs. It is also described as having “less haze, more robust hop expression, and more clarity.”

That all sounds good to me and I look forward to taking Monarch IPA for a test drive in the near future. Here is the beer release announcement from Aslan Brewing.

Aslan Brewing Company’s New Flagship Beer Is Here!

It’s been two years since the release of our last flagship beer, Cosmic Dreams. But, luckily for you, we are here to announce the release of our newest flagship beer: Monarch IPA!

Monarch is a fresh and decidedly nostalgic IPA with a pleasant, bright bitterness. The hops provide flavors of lemon, grapefruit, pine, and delicate herbal notes. Light biscuit flavors from the malt complement the jammy qualities of the hops while not overshadowing their nuance. Monarch finishes crisp and dry.

With trends constantly changing, recently we’ve found ourselves reaching for the classic, clear IPAs more and more. After testing a new recipe for the past year, we’ve worked hard to perfect this beer to present an IPA with less haze, more robust hop expression, and more clarity.

One-off brews like Marigold have helped us try different recipe variations and find the ideal flavor combination. Monarch comes in a bright orange can with a bit of a twist: this will be our first ever beer that is packaged in a 16 oz can!
