Gasworks Brewing is now open on the shores of Lake Union in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.

Let’s get the essentials out of the way before continuing. At this time, the hours are, generally, from noon until 10:00, but that is not exactly written in stone. For now, you should always check Gasworks Brewing’s Instagram feed to see if they are, or will be, open. They’ve done a good job of sharing that information on a daily/regular basis.

The brewery is located at 2441 N Northlake Way, Seattle. Parking is available in a small lot but is otherwise a bit tight and some of it requires you to walk along Northlake Way, which is not exactly pedestrian-friendly so keep your wits about you. Another option is to park in the neighborhood, ideally near the corner of 37th and Sunnyside. From there simply hop on the Burke-Gilman Trail and use the pathway down to the brewery.

On the lake!

I probably made that sound more difficult than it is because it is not difficult. I’m just trying to get you there. The beers are tasty and the setting is spectacular. The expansive beer garden sprawls out onto the lake shore. There’s even a dock. I saw one person go down to the dock, take a dive, swim around for a bit, and then return to his beer. He was shirtless, but otherwise fully clothed.

The space is largely an expansive patio right on the lake shore. Lots of picnic tables, other tables, and Adirondack chairs. Dog friendly. Kids welcome. Food is available from the restaurant next door. That opening weekend, the July Fourth weekend, was sweltering and the crowd would have benefitted from more umbrellas, but I assume that’s in the immediate plan.

I was drawn to the pilsners when I visited Gasworks Brewing during its inaugural weekend. There were two of them on tap. One of them was a super-hopped Northwest Pilsner, which was particularly tasty. The beer list was well-rounded with something to appeal to most enthusiasts. On a hot day, the watermelon sour seemed a popular choice.

The guiding force behind Gasworks Brewing is its founder and co-owner Kyle Hansen. He’s been on the beer scene for a while. He spent time working at Georgetown Brewing, started a brewery in Massachusetts called Untold Brewing, and more recently worked at Magnuson Brewing in Seattle. In fact, Hansen utilized the relationship with Magnuson Brewing to help get Gasworks Brewing up and running.
