Latona Pub announces big anniversary plans

Join Latona Pub for a celebration of 35 years of great beer

Starting on Tuesday, August 16, join Latona Pub for a five-day celebration of its 35th year serving Seattle great beer. Throughout the week they’ll feature special beer releases, including eight new collaboration beers. Also, live music and more. We share the details below.

“It is hard to imagine that 35 years have passed at the corner of 65th and Latona,” said a press release from Latona Pub. “During that time, the pub has been the scene of many events and is still very much the social and cultural hub it was designed to be.”

A Social, Cultural, Beer Hub

Since Latona Pub popped into existence at the corner of 65th Street and Latona Avenue in 1987, it has advocated for the advancement of the craft beer industry by focusing tightly on serving nothing but beers from local and regional breweries. In those days, few bars lent so much attention to the burgeoning “microbrew” scene.

“We have worked with brewers to develop the interpretation of styles such as the nitrogenated Rogue Oatmeal Stout, and numerous others from sours to IPAs,” said the press release. “These small batches of beer have encouraged brewers to think creatively, often resulting in exciting new brews that take on a life of their own and become a part of the brewery’s core lineup.”

Since the beginning, one of the ways Latona Pub advocated for craft beer was by assuring that the beer was served the way the brewer intended. The pub was a pioneer in terms of beer quality assurance. That included things like short draws from the keg to the glass and a regular, frequent draft line cleaning and maintenance regiment. Also, the pub purposefully limited the number of beers on tap to assure it was serving fresh beer (no old, stale beer on tap).

Just one of many historical markers, Latona Pub is where Georgetown Brewing released Manny’s Pale Ale 20 years ago. A would-be iconic beer launched at an already-iconic pub. Georgetown is one of the breweries with which Latona Pub collaborated for the 35th anniversary.

“We salute the cast of characters that have made the Latona great, including so many amazing employees over the years,” the press release said. “The personality and quality of the pub was built by its workers and we could not have made it this far without their dedication. This 35th anniversary is about them and the community of regulars who call the Latona home. This neighborhood pub is a community and it is an essential part of the fabric of the city.”
