For those interested, a quick word about web stats and traffic

How many people view the Washington Beer Blog? In the biz, we call it traffic. Many non-tech people casually use the word hits, but technically speaking hits is something different. We monitor traffic on our website using two tools: AW Stats and Google Analytics.

Below, I offer a snapshot as of December 1, 2021. It covers the first 11 months of 2021. I also include numbers for 2018, and 2019.

Traffic

2021 (Jan. 1 through Dec. 1):  560,231 Unique Visitors. 1,191,280 Number of Visits (page views).

Unique Visitors – A unique visitor is a computer that has made at least 1 hit on 1 page of the website during the period shown by the report.

Number of Visits – Our stats system logs page views into single visits if those page views occur within one hour. For example, if you visit the site, then come back two hours later, that’s two visits. If you visit the site, and then come back 20 minutes later, that’s one visit.
