Black Raven Brewing is releasing the rarest of its birds

Great Grandfather Raven returns this Thursday

In the mythology of Northwest coastal natives, Raven is a powerful figure that transforms the world. The Raven created the land, released our human ancestors from a cockle shell, and gifted them with fire. It is with reverence and respect that Raven is often referred to as Grandfather Raven.

Black Raven Brewing honors the role of Grandfather Raven with many of its beers, including its Grandfather Raven Imperial Stout, but the ultimate show of respect is the annual release of Great Grandfather Raven, a special, barrel-aged version of Grandfather Raven. This is one of the brewery’s rarest, biggest birds.

After a one-year absence, the brewery releases the latest iteration of Great Grandfather Raven on Thursday, March 17th, 2022. Here is the release announcement from the brewery.

Great Grandfather Raven, Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout

Available on tap at both Black Raven locations Thursday, March 17th
One of our rarest birds, we’re bringing Great Grandfather Raven back for the first time since 2020. Westland single-malt barrels are used to age our award-winning Imperial Stout and create this year’s vintage. This robust black ale is filled with notes of rich dark caramel, unsweetened chocolate, and hints of coffee all mellowed out with smooth oak and top-shelf whiskey.
