A cross-town, cross-country collaboration beer project

It was impressive how many medals Washington’s breweries brought home from the Great American Beer Festival in 2021. One notable achievement within the larger achievement, two Bellingham breweries won medals in the same category. In the German Sour Ale category, Aslan Brewing scored a gold medal and Kulshan Brewing scored a silver medal.

When Ponysaurus Brewing of North Carolina, which won the bronze medal in the same category, reached out and wanted to visit Bellingham, the idea of creating a collaborative beer involving all three breweries was just too juicy to pass up. The resulting beer, Podium Pals, hits the streets next Thursday, December 9th — with an event to commemorate the release.

Here’s the story from the folks at Kulshan Brewing:

In collaboration with our friends at Aslan Brewing, and our new friends at Ponysaurus Brewing in North Carolina, we came together to celebrate our shared success in the German Kettle Sour Ale category at the Great American Beer Festival!

When the Ponysaurus team reached out about coming to visit, we went straight to work planning their tour-de-Bellingham. With just three days together, we squeezed in all the brewery stops we could, we jumped in the bay, we went bowling, and then we did what we do best and brewed up a collab together.

Podium Pals, a guava, dry-hopped, German kettle sour ale, is as fun of a beer as the teams who made it! We can’t wait to share with you the greatest German Kettle Sour in the whole country, releasing next Thursday 12/9 at K2!
