Someone once said, “Any beer is good beer, cold beer is better, and free beer is best.”* If that’s true, free admission (with tasting tokens) to a big beer festival is a very good thing. The Washington Beer Commission needs your help and they are willing to give you free beer in exchange.
The Washington Beer Commission is looking for volunteers to work at the Washington Brewers Festival. The event takes place at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore on June 17, 18 and 19. In exchange for working a four-hour shift, volunteers earn free admission, which includes six tasting tokens. As a volunteer you will drink with the satisfaction of knowing you are part of the team creating so much fun for so many people. You will also receive an official volunteer T-shirt and an invitation to the volunteer appreciation party (exact date TBD). The T-shirt and party are sponsored by the Beer Authority.

Some prime shifts are still available. You cannot drink before or during your shift, so which shift you work is important. If you work the last shift of the day, you can use your free admission the day before or after your shift. Other beer festivals offer similar volunteer opportunities, but there is a difference. The Washington Brewers Festival is a fundraiser for, and is organized and operated by, the Washington Beer Commission—a not-for-profit commodity commission authorized by the Washington State Legislature in 2006. The Commission is charged with a simple mission: promote Washington beer and Washington breweries. This festival is the single largest fundraiser of the year for the Commission. Other festivals might benefit non-profit entities but are organized and operated by for-profit companies. I think we all understand how that works. Perhaps it is a small distinction, but I personally like knowing that my volunteer efforts are helping promote Washington beer.
