Washington Brewers Win Medals at Great American Beer Festival

This just in from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) held in Denver this past weekend. Five Washington breweries won a total of eight medals. Leading the way, Pyramid Breweries (Seattle) won three Gold medals and also  was honored as “Mid-Sized Brewing Company of the Year.” Other medal winners included Big Time Brewing (Seattle’s U. District), Boundary Bay Brewing (Bellingham), Silver City Restaurant and Brewery (Silverdale), and Flyers Restaurant and Brewery (Oak Harbor).

The GABF is the big daddy. It’s the largest and arguably the most prestegious beer festival in the country. This year the event attracted 2,902 beers from around the country. There were 222 medals awarded in 75 beer style categories.

  1. The other WA brewery that won a medal at GABF this year was Rock Bottom, Bellevue in the American Strong Pale category for their Hop Bomb. Even though they registered the beer via corp. headquarters, the beer was brewed in Bellevue by Brian Young.
