Lucky Envelope Brewing Celebrates the Year of the Wood Snake with a Week of Festivities.

Lucky Envelope Brewing invites you to help it welcome the Year of the Wood Snake. The annual celebration of the Lunar New Year spans a week with multiple events at the brewery’s taproom in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. It all kicks off on January 28th and runs through February 8th. Event info is provided below. The Lunar New Year is the biggest holiday in Chinese culture, so it makes sense that it’s a big deal for the brewery.

The brewery takes its name from a Chinese tradition–tied closely with New Year celebrations–of elders bestowing often red-and-gold envelopes to loved ones as a gesture of luck and goodwill. Lucky Envelope’s brewing philosophy centers on “Culturally Inspired Beer” with recipes that draw from modern and historic styles, techniques, and ingredients.

“Since our first Lunar New Year celebration at the brewery in 2016, it has been amazing to see the growing interest in the holiday, not just here at Lucky Envelope, but across the entire Puget Sound,” says  Raymond Kwan, Co-Founder and Director of Operations. “It’s wonderful to see so many Lunar New Year events celebrating different cultures. We’re thrilled to continue sharing our Chinese heritage and  upbringing with our community.” (This year, two other Seattle breweries, Ladd & Lass Brewing and Fast Fashion Brewing, also have plans to celebrate the Lunar New Year.)

Lucky Envelope Brewing invites you to enjoy various celebration days at the tasting room, including the biggest event on Saturday, February 1st, when the brewery releases its Year of the Snake beers. One of the special beers this year was a collaboration project with two other Seattle breweries, Ladd & Lass Brewing and Halcyon Brewing. The result was Sesame Heat, a black sesame and gochugaru cream stout.

“The idea came around in the most organic way possible, over gin and tonics during the Washington Craft Beer Summit,” explains  Barry Chan, the brewery’s Head Brewer and Co-Founder. “We discussed numerous styles and flavorings, ultimately settling on black sesame and gochugaru because it not only sounded tasty but we’ve never brewed with sesame before.”

Along with that, this year, Lucky Envelope infused its Double Happiness Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with China Mist black tea. Also, it created two exciting collaboration beers and two more exclusive releases. The brewery will also release its sixth Lunar New Year collaboration with Asheville, North Carolina’s Highland Brewing–a Year of the Snake Honey Amber Lager. To complete the lineup, Lucky Envelope unveils its Pineapple Whip Sour Ale and Pomegranate Hazy Pale Ale.

Wood Snake Honey Amber Lager
Collaboration with Highland Brewing
(5.4% ABV) – Asheville’s Highland Brewing and Lucky Envelope are so excited this year to wish you an auspicious Year of the Wood Snake. This year’s Chinese Zodiac collaboration combines hand-toasted rice and Hawaiian guava flower honey into a smooth and easy-drinking amber lager. Cheers and xīn nián kuài lè (Happy New Year)!

Sesame Heat Sesame-Chili Cream Stout
Collaboration with Ladd & Lass Brewing and Halcyon Brewing
(7.0% ABV) – Halcyon, Ladd & Lass, and Lucky Envelope met over several dirty martinis to scheme up this festive Lunar New Year Cream Stout. Brewed with real black sesame and Korean gochugaru chili powder for a nutty and lightly spicy addition to a rich chocolatey-smooth cream stout. Count with us: THREE cool breweries, TWO special ingredients, ONE tasty beer, Yah-ah-ah!!!!!!! Allergen Warning: Contains Lactose and sesame.

Year of the Snake Pomegranate Hazy Pale Ale
(5.6% ABV) – Celebrate the Year of the Snake with this hazy pale ale! Brewed with pomegranate, hibiscus, Mosaic, and Krush hops. Bursting with fruity flavors, a hint of tartness, and a smooth, silky finish—all wrapped up in a beautiful pink pour.

China Mist Double Happiness Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
(11.0% ABV) – Our 2025 Lunar New Year Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout is a blend of imperial stouts aged in Westland Whiskey barrels and infused with MarketSpice China Mist black tea. An earthy blend of Oolong and Jasmine teas, enhanced by sweet almond, mingles deliciously with the base beer’s smooth notes of boozy vanilla, oak, port wine, and milk chocolate.
