Tonight (starting at 3:00 pm) there will be a celebration of Jim Quilter’s life and brews at the Ram Restaurant and Brewery, University Village. The remembrance and release party will begin at 3:00 pm with the ceremonial tapping of the first keg of ZZ HOP. The party will feature a special cask conditioned version as well as many other beers designed and inspired by Jim. Proceeds from the party and the beer will benefit Jim’s family.
Today would have been Jim’s 53rd birthday. As we reported previously, Jim Quilter passed away in June. He was a well-traveled brewer whose career included a few stops in California at Sierra Nevada, Mad River, and Butte Creek. He is perhaps best remembered as the brewmaster at Winthrop Brewing. After leaving Winthrop Brewing, Quilter started Iron Horse Brewing in 2005. Most recently, Jim had been brewing for the RAM at University Village.
All sales of ZZ Hop sold during the party –as well as revenue generated from t-shirts and other ZZ Hop merchandise– will be donated to Jim’s family. Additionally, ZZ Hop will be pouring at all of the RAM’s other Northwest locations and $.25 per pint sold will be donated to the family.
