For the past few years the Latona Pub (blog sponsor) has celebrated Earth Day the only way it knows how: with beer. To honor the earth, local breweries transported beer to the Latona by manual means: long urban hikes with hand trucks in tow, bicycle trips with kegs in trailers, and even a combined effort involving a row boat and a bicycle.
Once again the Latona Pub is raising a mug in honor of Mother Earth. This Sunday, April 22 the Latona Pub hosts Hand Truckin’. The event is a benefit for Feet First, a local organization that works to make our communities walkable and promotes walking as a vital form of transportation.
In addition to the big party on Sunday, and the keg that is being delivered for it, the Latona once again is celebrating Earth Week (this week) by pouring beer from kegs transported without the benefit of internal combustion engines. Click here to see our posts about previous Earth Week adventures.
Prior to Sunday’s the event, a group of volunteers will transport the beer by hand truck from Two Beers Brewing in SoDo to the Latona Pub near Green Lake. In all, the The Great Beer Hike will cover approximately ten miles (call the number below to volunteer). Two Beers Brewing is providing a limited edition beer for the event: Hand Truckin’ Wheat Ale.
Your ticket gets you a Feet First pint glass and a cold Hand Truckin’ Wheat Ale.
