Reuben’s Brews returns with its Fresh Hop Field Trip to Yakima
I don’t take this job for granted. Getting to walk a hop field with a hop farmer during harvest, then tour the surrounding processing facilities, is not something every beer writer gets to do. I’ve had the chance a few times now, and I won’t pass one up if it’s offered. This year, Reuben’s Brews is offering that same chance to the public.
It’s called the Fresh Hop Field Trip, and it returns Saturday, September 12th. Tickets are on sale now, and based on past years, they won’t last long.
“Only on this trip can you experience the hop harvest like a brewer: walking a hop field, touring a processing facility, and geeking out about volatile aromatics with a hop breeder, all while drinking beers brewed with freshly harvested hops!”
The itinerary covers a lot of ground. There’s time in the field, a stop at Bale Breaker Brewing, and — I’ll say it again because it’s worth repeating — tamales from Los Hernández, which are as good as tamales get.
The Reuben’s Brews Fresh Hop Field Trip includes:
- Round-trip coach transportation from Seattle to Yakima on Saturday, September 12th
- Refreshing beverages (including a variety of fresh hop beer)
- Bagel with cream cheese for breakfast
- A guided tour of Roy Farms and a picnic lunch
- Two beers (or N/A drinks) at a Yakima brewery
- A beer & tour of Bale Breaker Brewing Company, followed by tamales from Los Hernández Tamales
- A Reuben’s Brews Fresh Hop Field Trip t-shirt
Tickets are $210. That number gets some raised eyebrows, but factor in everything included and it’s clear this isn’t a moneymaker for Reuben’s — it’s an experience. For serious beer geeks, it’s the kind of trip worth doing at least once.
