Day One, Dayapalooza, and Loyal Legion

Specialty craft beer distributor Day One Distribution is turning double digits, and they’re throwing a party to mark the milestone. Next week, the company celebrates its 10th anniversary with tap takeovers at all three Loyal Legion Beer Hall locations across Oregon.

Dubbed “Dayapalooza: 10 Years of Day One,” the celebration kicks off at Loyal Legion’s Southeast Portland location on Wednesday, August 19th, rolls into Beaverton on Thursday, the 20th, and wraps up at the PDX Airport location on Friday, the 21st. Beer, yes, but Loyal Legion will also pour special cocktails featuring Son of Man Vermouth and Handshake Bitters alongside a collective lineup of more than 30 of Day One’s beer and cider brands.

All About Craft Beer Since Day One

Back in the summer of 2016, craft beer veteran Robby Roda saw a gap in the Portland beer market and decided to fill it. His idea: bring the small, hard-to-find specialty beers already blowing up in Southern California up to Oregon’s booming craft beer scene. Thus, Day One Distributing was born.

Fast forward to today, and Day One has grown into a familiar and important feature of the Oregon beer landscape. The company distributes for about 30 local breweries regularly, while also bringing in more than 100 breweries from around the country each year for limited releases, tap takeovers, and one-off specialty drops. It’s a model built around variety and access — getting beer lovers throughout Oregon a shot at beers they’d otherwise have to travel for.

A Kindred Spirit

Birds of a feather, right? Day One is not the only Portland-based business with an obsessive fixation on craft beer. Loyal Legion got its start in Portland as a love letter to local craft beer, and it’s since spread to Beaverton, PDX Airport, and Vancouver, Washington. The formula: pair the best local beer selection around with a tap system built like it came out of NASA’s R&D lab. With 99 taps pouring and an obsessive commitment to line cleaning, Loyal Legion backs up that massive selection with beer poured at its absolute best.
