My top picks for beer events this weekend

In Denver, tens of thousands of beer fans and beer professionals are celebrating the Great American Beer Festival. In Munich, the smell of beer and the sound of oom-pah music fills the air. If you are reading this blog post, you probably are not in either of those places, but don’t be sad; there’s a lot happening on the local beer scene this weekend. Here are my top picks. (If you want to mention another event, please leave a comment below.)

Fremont Oktoberfest (picture above) – Friday thru Sunday in Seattle. The city’s largest and oldest beer festival has upped it’s beer game in recent years. Find me there on Friday evening and I’ll buy you a beer if you compliment the blog. Enter the code WABEER when you buy tickets online and get two extra tokens.

Inland NW Craft Beer Fest – Friday and Saturday in Spokane. 40 craft breweries, most from the eastern part of the state and not usually available around Seattle, will pour in excess of 150 different beers. Event takes place in the outfield of Avista Stadium, Spokane’s minor league ballpark.

Beveridge Place Pub – West Seattle, Thursday thru the weekend – Liters of beer! The Bev will pour a great selection of Festbiers from Deutschland as well as local versions of quaffable lagers to fill your mugs. Enjoy liters or half-liters of beer from Ayinger, Munchener Hofbrau, Weihenstephan, Chuckanut Brewery, Dru Bru,  and pFriem Familly Brewers.

Vashon Brewing Oktoberfest Celebration – Saturday on Vashon Island. This brewery and community taproom in downtown Vashon is adored by locals but somewhat unknown to off-islanders. Set your watch to Island Time, relax at Vashon speed, and enjoy the day. [Pro Tip: Walk on the ferry; the island’s Metro bus (route 117-118) runs between the terminal and the taproom. Just coordinate with the ferry schedule. Tell the driver where you’re going.]
