Brewmaster’s Taproom hosting a very special fresh hop beer event on October 15

The Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton is hosting a special fundraiser on Sunday, October 15th featuring fresh hop beers from five local breweries. The event is a benefit for Rez Dog Rescue of Yakima. More than that, it’s a celebration of one particular hop-growing family’s contribution to the world of beer. In addition to growing hops on the family farm and developing really cool new hop varieties, the Perrault family is committed to helping dogs that face very uncertain futures.

Beer and rez dogs are two things near and dear to us here at the Washington Beer Blog. Last summer we rescued a dog off of a reservation in Montana. You may not be familiar with the term rez dog. Without going into unpleasant details, just know that rez dog is part of the pet rescue lexicon.

Lucy joined our family last summer after we found her on a reservation in Montana, where she was in need of our love and a forever home.

On Sunday, October 15th, starting at 11:00 A.M., The Brewmster’s Taproom will pour a special flight of fresh hop beers. The breweries providing the beer include Airways Brewing, Cloudburst Brewing, Fremont Brewing, Reuben’s Brews, and Three Magnets Brewing.

Regarding the beers that will pour at the event, they all contain hops developed by Perrault Farms and Select Botanicals Group in Toppenish. (Select Botanicals Group is a partnership involving three hop-growing families that focuses on breeding new hop varieties.) The Perrault family has been farming hops in the Yakima Valley for over 100 years. These days, Jason Perrault is recognized as one of the top hop breeders in the world, which means he painstakingly develops new hop varieties. If you’re a beer lover, you have almost certainly tasted the fruits of his labor: Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, Ekuanot, Loral and many other popular varieties were developed by Select Botanicals Group. In addition to breeding and growing hops, the Perrault family works to support Rez Dog Rescue, a Yakima-based 501(c)3 organization.

The Brewmaster’s Taproom opened last summer and is helmed by Marley Rall. In her past life, Marley worked as a fundraiser for many different non-profits. She has made it her mission to bring the charitable side of the craft brewing industry to the forefront.

“I’m looking forward to showing everyone that we can support great causes one pint at a time,” says Marley. “It makes me smile from ear to ear knowing that we’ve been able to raise almost $10,000 so far this year!”

Cheers to all our sponsors, like…
