Ghostfish Brewing releasing a very special beer for Earth Day

Ghostfish Brewing's oyster stout.

Join the brewery for a release event at the taproom, be part of the crowd for an Earth Day edition of King 5’s Evening Magazine.

Ghostfish Brewing recently partnered with a local environmental non-profit to create a beer to benefit the restoration of Puget Sound’s marine habitat, water quality, and native species. Working with Puget Sound Restoration Fund (PSRF), Ghostfish Brewing created Earth to Beer Oyster Stout. The brewery releases the beer on Monday, April 22nd at its taproom in Seattle. Following the release, find the beer on tap at Ghostfish Brewing’s taproom in Seattle and in 16-oz cans at select retailers.

King 5 TV will tape a special Earth Day edition of Evening Magazine at the release event. All are welcome to join King 5’s Kim Holcolm and the crew at the event. The taproom will open at 11:00 AM that day. Puget Sound Restoration Fund members will be there to talk about the organization’s work. In addition to the beer release, the taproom will serve a special Oyster Po Boy sandwich on that day only.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Earth Day and Puget Sound’s many riches than with beer borne from clean water and locally grown oysters,” said PSRF’s Deputy Director, Jodie Toft. Our collaboration with Ghostfish Brewing has given us the chance to appreciate the ways in which we are both community-minded makers – be it of native oysters, abalone, and kelp, or  of creatively crafted beer.”

Ghostfish Brewing created Earth To Beer Oyster Stout using drought-tolerant and environmentally low-impact malted millet from Grouse Malt House. The stout’s briny notes come from the addition of shells and a bit of brine from over 90 pounds of freshly shucked Pacific oysters harvested by PSRF from its Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm.

“I am always interested in projects that let me create further positive impact on my local community, “said Ghostfish Brewing’s Head Brewer, Reid Ackerman. “With the alarming development of climate change, projects like Earth To Beer are becoming increasingly paramount to our success in maintaining our planet’s delicate balance; creating more awareness and support that hopefully add up to meaningful developments in improving the condition of these environments.”

Ghostfish Brewing’s release of Earth To Beer Oyster Stout is as part of a national campaign called Earth To Beer. More than 35 breweries in over 20 states are participating by making specially packaged beer with environmentally responsible ingredients that benefit local environmental organizations.
