Belgian Beer Month at Full Throttle

I recently stopped by Full Throttle Bottles to stock the fridge. While I was there I talked to Erika about the upcoming Belgianfest, which will take place right across the street from her shop. She is excited to say the least. Full Throttle Bottles is an official ticket outlet, by the way. They will officially kick of Belgian Beer Month tomorrow with a special tasting event (details below).

Here’s the word from Erika and crew at Full Throttle:

It’s Belgian beer month at Full Throttle Bottles. To prepare for Belgianfest across the street on January 23, we’ll be training you in the fine art of Belgian Beers.

This Wednesday, come chat with Larry from Click Distributing, the suppliers of some of the BEST Belgians out there. And to be fair, we’re including some Belgian STYLE brews from an amazing American brewery, Ommegang, out of Cooperstown NY. I dare you to tell the difference! (there’s no test though…). These four span the range of Belgian styles, so come get schooled in Belgian beers….we’ll do another session at the end of the month too!

Ommegang Biere de Mars: Ommegang Biere de Mars is a fine Belgian-style amber ale with a bit of magical space dust woven in: Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, a wild yeast which imparts added tartness, extra zing, and a touch of funk – while dry hopping enhances the hop aroma.

Ommegang 3 Philosophers: Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like. (I like to call this a quad style…and is one of the 5 beers I would like if I were shipwrecked..)

Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux: “Les Bons Voeux” means best wishes, which is what Brasserie Dupont sends with this very special saison ale brewed only for the holidays. Redolently aromatic, rich and velvety, this is an ale to toast the season and welcome in the New Year! (Yeah, we know it’s the new year…so come enjoy! This is excellent year round!)

Dupont Moinette Brune: Famous for their Saison Ale, Brasserie Dupont is also renowned in Belgium for their Moinette. This sturdy ale has an herbal bouquet that indicates its well hopped character. But unlike its drier cousin, its body is fuller and rounder with a slightly sweet finish. Delicious before a meal and with foods like marinated meats and barbecue.
