Headless Mumby Brewing celebrates 3rd Anniversary on Nov. 20th

Headless Mumby Brewing celebrates its 3rd Anniversary on Saturday, November 20th at its brewery and taproom in Olympia. Unlike the vast majority of craft breweries in the USA, Headless Mumby focuses entirely on brewing lagers. Alex Maffeo and Keith Ciani co-founded the brewery with that intention.

Along with releasing a special anniversary beer, they’ll raffle off prizes throughout the day. The anniversary beer is a SMASH (single malt and single hop). It was brewed using one kind of malt, Vienna malt, and one hop variety, Zappa hops. For the event, they created a special cask version of the beer — a birthday cake version. The image above gives you a clue what that process was like.

“This year’s Anniversary SMASH is definitely a banger,” said Headless Mumby’s head brewer, Stacey O’Connor. “SMASH stands for single malt and single hop and we do a different version every year.”

“This year we used all Vienna malt for a bready backbone with notes of sweet honey and biscuit,” said O’Connor. “The hop we chose is a new variety that packs a serious punch. The hop is Zappa from Crosby Hop Farms and it has a flavor profile that will rock your world! With notes of spice, mango, and fruity pebbles of all things. Mix these hops with the Vienna malt and this year’s SMASH is sure to stand out.”

Also, to celebrate the anniversary, Carbon Pop will be on site serving up burgers. As far as the burgers are concerned, Carbon Pop is a pop-up burger outfit that focuses on making locally sourced hamburgers, using almost entirely local, natural ingredients. They describe their burgers like this: “Our grass fed and finished burger is sourced locally, for real, from Harlow Cattle Co. in Pierce county! Plus, house baked milk buns made with Washington grown Shepherds Grain wheat. All produce is limited to what is available from our neighbors, is Organic and sourced exclusively from Washington State.”

“Otherwise our cheese is shitty American cheese and our pickles are standard chippers because some things can’t be improved upon! All of our specialty sauces are house made!”
