Seattle’s Georgetown Brewing has added Seattle-based Timber City Ginger Beer to its core family. This marks Georgetown’s first foray into the expanding world of non-beer adult beverages. Kind of. Georgetown Brewing’s taproom has served Timber City Ginger Beer for some time. It was the first non-Georgetown product ever served in the brewery’s taproom. Reportedly, Timber City’s innovative seasonal flavor profiles have proven especially popular.

Timber City Ginger Beer is a Seattle-based company that began producing its alcoholic and non-alcoholic ginger beers a decade ago. When the company’s founders sought a way to grow the Timber City brand, Kara and Kyle McKnight say that Georgetown Brewing seemed like a perfect fit. The makers of popular beer brands like Manny’s Pale Ale, Johnny Utah Pale Ale, and Bodhizafa IPA hope to take the Timber City brand to the next level.

Kara and Kyle founded Timber City Ginger Beer in Seattle in 2014 with the intention of creating a dry, ginger-forward, farmer-driven ginger beer. They sold their first bottles at a Seattle farmers market, selling out in 90 minutes. Soon after, they quit their jobs and started making ginger beer full-time, growing a local following with their “OG” Timber City.

“Kyle and I have been running this ginger beer engine pretty much on our own for 10 years now,” said Kara. “So many highs and lows, but overall it has been an absolute honor to build a brewing business in the glorious greater Western Washington.”

Kara adds, “We are so honored to pass along all we have built to an incredible, local company that upholds the same principles we do: a love for our state and what it grows, tireless dedication to supporting Washington’s economy, a commitment to brewing and sharing quality products, and most importantly, a champion in community building. The team at Georgetown will help grow our spicy little beverage company the right way.”

“Roger and I have been fans of Timber City Ginger Beer ever since we started serving their beers in our tasting room,” said Manny Chao, Georgetown Brewing’s co-owner. “It was the very first product we offered in our tasting room that was not our own.”

“Kyle and Kara are local, they are awesome, and their Ginger Beer is super darn tasty! We really believe in what they started and we’re hoping to use our strengths to spread Timber City Ginger Beer regionally around the Pacific Northwest. It’s a perfect fit for us. Thank you Kara and Kyle for trusting us with the future of your company!”

Georgetown Brewing says that it will continue to produce the high-quality ginger beer that customers expect, adding that it is excited about the opportunity to introduce both hard ginger beer and non-alcoholic ginger beer to a broader audience of consumers who are increasingly looking for locally-made beverage choices. Timber City is currently available at over 300 grocery stores, bars, and restaurants throughout Western Washington.
