The University of Washington’s Craft Beer Certificate programs and courses are designed for anyone interested in working in the craft beer industry or planning to start their own craft beer business. Enrollment is now open for a variety of classes as well as the Business of Craft Beer Certificate program. Classes start in the fall.
Opportunities range from beer server certification to a comprehensive Business of Craft Beer certificate program. You must be 21 years of age or older and there is no application process. Just enroll.
For the Business of Craft Beer program, it is recommended that you first complete the Mastering Beer Styles course. Also, the Fundamentals of Commercial Brewing Systems course. Enrollment is now open for both. The UW is offering each of those courses this fall and winter.
Mastering Beer Styles – This 10-week beer tasting course is designed to take students on an exploration of the beer world. You’ll learn how to identify and appreciate the various styles of beer. Classes are offered in Tacoma and Seattle.
Fundamentals of Commercial Brewing Systems – You introduction to the world of commercial brewing. The course familiarizes you with the equipment, processes, and technologies that professional brewers use to manage and run breweries of varying sizes. Classes are offered on Zoom and Canvas.
Business of Craft Beer – A 20-week program that focuses on what it really takes to start a Craft Brewery. This certificate spans all stages of business development in the craft brewing industry, from finding and managing your finances to building marketing strategies and managing your operation. The final project of creating an executive summary and pitch will give the next steps to executing and managing a successful business and developing an operational business plan.
