Camp Colvos Brewing, located in the heart of the village on Vashon Island, has a lovely, large patio seating area. On top of that, they have delicious beers and free tater tots. Yep, you heard right. Before we share the secret password that will land you some free tots, let’s talk about what else the brewery is up to these days.
Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, the brewery is moving full steam ahead with its plans to open a second taproom, this one on the mainland in Tacoma.
It’s been more than a year since we first told you about Camp Colvos Brewing’s plans to open a taproom in Tacoma (read it). In November 2019, they signed a lease for a 2,800 square foot space in the Brewery Blocks area, near some other breweries, like 7 Seas, E9, Black Fleet, and Sig.
Obviously, 2020 threw a wrench into works, but construction at the new Camp Colvos Brewing location in Tacoma is fully underway. As the pictures show, right now things are probably as torn up as they will get. They’re working furiously with their sights set on a March 1, 2021 opening date.

Livin’ on Island Time
But until the mainland location comes to fruition…
Mainlanders like me, we sometimes need a hiatus from the hustle and the bustle, an intermission from the interstates and the traffic lights. Just a short ferryboat ride from West Seattle or Tacoma, Vashon Island offers just such a retreat, even if only for an afternoon. Do not resist or interrupt the leisurely pace of life on the island. The natives are not moving in slow motion; rather, you are stuck on fast-forward.

Camp Colvos has a lovely outdoor space with a walk-up window where you order your beers and your food. From what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen myself, they’re vigilant about COVID protocols. And they have great beer, too.
Beyond visiting the brewery to enjoy a beer, or perhaps get some beers to go, I leave you to your own devices to discover other island adventures. Go for a nice walk somewhere. There are many possibilities.
