Big Block Brewing – New taproom in Carnation now open

Last November we learned of Big Block Brewing’s plan to open a taproom in Carnation, Washington. That location is now open. As of late April, the brewery now has three locations: the brewery and taproom in Redmond, a taproom only in Sammamish, and now a taproom only in Carnation at 4534 Tolt Ave, Carnation, WA 98014.

The taproom is on the main drag through town, Highway 203. It is a 21+ establishment with no pets allowed. Inside, the automotive-themed decor makes the space immediately recognizable as Big Block. The space is perfectly sized. Not too small, but not too big either. Especially cool, there is a large glass door that rolls up and offers counter seating along the sidewalk – open-air when the door is rolled up, but not outside. No kitchen, but you’re welcome to bring in food from the town’s restaurants.

They are still putting a few final touches on things, but Big Block Brewing is now open in Carnation. Here is the story we originally published in November 2022.

Big Block Brewery opening a new taproom location in Carnation

“We are so excited to announce the opening of our new location in Carnation,” said the announcement on social media. “We will be right on the main street in downtown. Watch for updates and news on the grand opening. We are looking to open this new taproom sometime in late December early January. Look out Carnation here we come.”

John and Michele Julum started Big Block Brewery in the garage of their house in 2012. That eventually led them to open a taproom on East Lake Sammamish Parkway (2015), a more appropriate place for them to sell the beer to the community, though the beer was still brewed in the garage. Next, Big Block Brewery took over the former home of Hi-Fi Brewing in Redmond (2019). At last, John and Michele could park cars in their garage again.

Today, Big Block Brewery brews its beers in Redmond, where it also operates a taproom. The taproom on Lake Sammamish Parkway continues to provide a hub for the community. And now, or soon, Big Block Brewery will open a taproom in downtown Carnation.

Keep an eye on Big Block Brewery’s social media channels for details about the new taproom in Carnation. We will too. Rest assured, we’ll pay them a visit as soon as they’re open in the ‘nation.
