A Grateful Dead tribute beer and your exclusive chance to get it

Here in the Pacific Northwest, you don’t see beers from Source Brewing very often, if at all. This farmhouse brewery opened in 2019 in Colts Neck, New Jersey on an old farm. It brews with locally sourced ingredients when possible, creating beers that are in tune with the seasons. And speaking of tunes…

The brewery is releasing a limited run of its HELP>SLIP>HAZY Imperial IPA, a beer that pays homage to the Grateful Dead. Fans of the band might recognize the beer’s name as it refers to an iconic set of songs from the Blues for Allah album.

Beer-loving Deadheads, like me, can get their fill via Tavour, the app-based beer retailer located here in the Seattle area. The beer ships in a 4-pack and comes with a commemorative glass and a Dead-themed sticker.

For the uninitiated, this is the kind of thing Tavour does. It provides an opportunity for you to get beers from distant lands that would otherwise remain unobtainable. For beer-loving Deadheads, maybe this will provide a reason to hop aboard the Tavour bus.

This is the only way to get the HELP>SLIP>HAZY Imperial IPA commemorative pack without visiting one of the Source Brewing taprooms in New Jersey. The brewery first released this beer last summer and it was very popular. For the second release, Source Brewing is playing to a larger audience via Tavour.

If you’re already a Tavour user, you’ll need to allow notifications and then enter the code troubleahead on the promo page. You’ll receive a notification when the beer is available. If you are not yet a Tavour user, you’ll need to download the app and then follow those steps.

Here is the announcement from Tavour with more details about all of this.

Source Brewing is releasing a Grateful Dead tribute beer along with limited edition commemorative glassware. It is available exclusively on Tavour and at the brewery’s taproom.

As any happy hippy will tell you, there ain’t nothin’ for the head like some good old Grateful Dead. And, if your daily dose of Dead comes in beer form, even better!

Fortunately for all the tie-dyed Dead Heads out there, New Jersey’s Source Brewing will re-release their beloved HELP>SLIP>HAZY Imperial IPA for an extremely limited run this June. The first release of this Grateful Dead tribute beer last summer proved to be among their most sought after, ever.

To make it extra special, the beer will come as a 4-pack, along with a commemorative glass and sticker featuring Dead-inspired art. This time around, it will be accessible to craft beer drinkers and music aficionados in 25 states through the app-based bottle shop Tavour.

The name HELP>SLIP>HAZY is a nod to one of the band’s most iconic live sets: three songs entitled Help On The Way, Slipknot, and Franklin’s Tower. First released on the 1975 LP Blues for Allah, the suite became a staple of live shows, with 27 performances between 1975 and 1977. It’s also a favorite of Source Brewing’s Jeremy Watts.

“I’m the Dead Head of the brewery,” he explains. “When we decided to start the ‘Artist Tribute’ series, I immediately knew that I wanted to make The Grateful Dead my tribute beer.”

Source has received hundreds of requests to brew the beer again, many from as far away as California. So, it made sense for the brewery to work with a company like Tavour. The craft beer retailer works with over 600 of the country’s top breweries and has offered band-themed brews before, including a recent collaboration between Texas Ale Project and heavy metal legends Pantera.

To concoct this hoppy Grateful Dead tribute, the brewers at Source used bold additions of Galaxy, Cashmere, and Citra Hops, creating tropical flavors of bright citrus, fresh berry, and pineapple. It’s a New England-style IPA with a hazy body, soft mouthfeel, and very low bitterness.

Thirsty Dead Heads who want a sip of HELP>SLIP>HAZY will need to:

1. Download the Tavour app

2. Allow notifications from Tavour on the app and their device.

3. Enter code “troubleahead” on the promos page of the app.

When the beer is available to purchase, Tavour members who have entered the code will receive a push notification and the option to buy as long as the limited supply holds out!

Outside of the brewery’s taproom, Tavour is the only place this set will be available.
