UPDATE: Since publishing the story announcing the cancellation, I published a follow-up story with a deeper look into the reasons why the event was canceled. You can see that story here.

Original Post: We all hoped for a different outcome, but circumstances being what they are, the Washington Beer Commission decided to cancel this year’s Washington Brewers Festival. That means no three-day festival at Marymoor Park this Father’s Day weekend.

As I explain in another post, recent changes at the Commission meant everything was up in the air. I speculated that they’d find a way to make the festival happen, but learned today that they decided to skip it this year with the intention of bringing it back in 2024.

Here is the announcement straight from the Washington Beer Commission.

We are disappointed to share this news, but we know that it’s the right thing to do. Throughout nearly 25 years of producing the Washington Brewers Festival, we have exposed, educated, and entertained countless Washington Craft Beer Drinkers. Award-winning Washington Beer has never been more popular than it is today. We are proud of our Brewers and know that they are universally recognized as the preferred choice of beer drinkers everywhere, respected for quality and innovation.

We have enjoyed the recognition of having created one of the premier beer festivals in the country. We are taking this hiatus in order to provide a world-class beer festival in 2024 for the most educated craft beer drinkers in the world.

We understand the difficulties that still exist for the brewing and restaurant industries, as we work to recover from the effects of the pandemic. In the meantime, we encourage all Washington beer drinkers to continue to support our local breweries, taprooms, restaurants, and pubs.

We want to express our gratitude to everyone that has made the Washington Brewers Festival into one of the industry’s most recognized beer festivals., and we look forward to seeing you in 2024.

  1. Sorry, but this is a real head scratcher. I attended the Friday session last year. Lots of revelers, lots of brewers, well organized, no incidents. Seems like the beancounters are running the asylum at the sacrifice of a fun time. Maybe it’s time for the WBC to be dissolved as a favor to the industry and the taxpayers.
