Three collaboration beers, in cans, from Urban Family Brewing

So two brewers, a coffee roaster, and a fruit grower walk into a bar. Sorry, I haven’t got a punchline, but I do have some news to share about three new collaboration beers hitting the street this weekend. Urban Family Brewing is releasing three collaboration beers this Saturday, October 27th. All of them available in cans.

The first is a collaboration with Fieldwork Brewing of Berkeley, California, a damn fine brewery if ever there was one. The second beer is a collaboration with Street Bean Coffee Roasters, a local coffee roasting house with a good-doer attitude. The third is a collaboration with Collins Family Orchards, a fruit grower in Selah, Washington with which Urban Family regularly works to procure fruit for their amazing sour and fruited beers.

Here is the release notice from the brewery.

We’re releasing three different collaboration cans on Saturday 10/27 @ 12:00p (taproom only)

Identity Theft DIPA (9.0% ABV) The result of this ‘brewmance’ with Fieldwork Brewing from Berkeley, CA is an ultra-dank combination of Mosaic and Galaxy hops, followed up with a tropical fruit blast from several Motueka dry-hop additions. Coming in at 9% this DIPA has creamy mouthfeel that carries waves of berries, pine, citrus.

In the kettle this beer was whirpooled exclusively with large charges of high-oil Galaxy hops. Later, it was continually dry-hopped everyday during primary fermentation with Mosaic and Galaxy to initiate a biotransformation of hop oils with the actively fermenting yeast. After fermentation was complete, we continued to dry hop this beer with several separate additions of Galaxy and Motueka for another week.

Finishing deceptively smooth, ‘Identity Theft’ steals the best attributes from each hop, and compiles them into what is a culmination (a ‘brewmance’ if you will) of love for hops from two breweries that can’t get enough of them.

THICC Coffee Porter (7.0% ABV): We collaborated with Street Bean Coffee Roasters to make a custom roast for the THICC-est coffee flavor imaginable using a casual 8 pounds of coffee beans per barrel. After tasting through their delicious offerings we landed on a blend featuring their Kenya Tasiwa Estate beans, which have notes of fig, plum, chocolate, and dark cherries. They roasted our blend at a lower temperature to showcase the intricate flavor profile. After, we cold-steeped the coffee in the beer, and added a touch of Madagascar vanilla beans to give it a creamy smoothness. We’re wired just thinking about it.

Fruit Forward IP(luot)A (7.5% ABV): A collaboration with Collins Family Orchards an India Pluot Ale (get it?!)! For this beer we processed ~300 pounds of Honey Punch pluots by hand, and added the whole fruit during fermentation. Taking the best of both worlds, pluots, 75% plums and 25% apricots, deliver a sweet, juicy fruit punch. We then dry hopped with Azacca, and Citra Cryo hops to boost the pineapple and lemon/orange aromas. The resulting beer is a delicate coral pink, has a creamy mouthfeel, tropical/citrus aroma and finishes with a fresh stone fruit flavor.
