Were you fortunate enough to meet the Loud Lady last time she was here? If not, get ready. She’s back. Loud Lady Imperial IPA will be released today (Tuesday, January 21) at both Airways Brewing  locations – the taproom at the brewery and the bistro in downtown Kent.

Let me assure you that Loud Lady is a hop-lovers dream. This big, boisterous beer clocks in at “200 IBUs.” I should note that conventional brewing science suggests that you can’t really measure IBUs when they get that high, and experts will tell you that the human palate cannot detect anything over about 75 or 100 IBUs, so let’s call it a theoretical 200 IBUs. One thing is certain, this beer packs a big enough punch to make you believe in 200 IBUs. Heck, this beer is hoppy enough to make me believe in the Easter Bunny.

To produce a 10-barrel batch of Loud Lady, Brewmaster Alex Dittmar uses a total of 52 pounds of hops. I’m not good at math, but by my ciphering that’s more than two pounds of hops per keg. That’s a lot. For more information about the beer, check out the post we did last June when the Loud Lady made her first appearance.

Airways Brewing (blog sponsor) also announced the impending release of Very Loud Lady Triple IPA. That beer will be part of the upcoming Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow. See our previous posts about that series of events.

KENT, Wash. (January 21, 2014) – Say hello to Loud Lady Imperial IPA™, the second release of  this limited-edition beer from the Kent-based brewery’s line of delicious handcrafted beers. With a special run just in time for Spring, this delicious, Northwest-style IPA is released only twice a year in small batches.

“We’re happy to welcome the Loud Lady back for its annual January draught release,” said Alex Dittmar, owner and head brewer at Airways Brewing Company. “We last released this beer in June of 2013, and it received an overwhelmingly positive response. So much so, that we constantly get asked when it’s coming back. While this time it’s draught only, it’ll be back in bottles again this summer.”
