Introducing Douglas Lager – a new company and a new beer

The folks from Lowercase Brewing have now started a new company and introduced a new beer: Douglas Lager. It is described as an uncomplicated lager designed to embody the spirit of the PNW. Look for the beer to hit the shelves in September.

Back in March, we shared the news that Lowercase Brewing was closing down its taproom to change its focus and, in their own words, “further specialize, hone our brews and give us space for some exciting new projects.”

Since that time, we’ve been told to expect some exciting news from Lowercase Brewing, and from the two people behind that brewery’s success: Chris Smith and John Marti. Today we learned about Douglas Lager, a whole new company and a whole new beer. Douglas Lager, the beer, is described as “an uncomplicated lager that embodies the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.”

Chris Smith, CEO at Douglas Lager, says, “Our new Douglas Lager recalls a time when beer was simple and delicious, and when everyday lagers brewed here. We want to bring that tradition back.”

“So far we’ve created the identity, landed a distributor, and are on the home stretch to get this beer into the greater Cascadia marketplace,” said John Marti, Head Brewer at Douglas Lager. “We just need your help making the last push to cross the finish line. Our hope is that once people taste Douglas Lager, they will make the switch from other established macro beers.”

In an announcement today on social media, the company said, “We are excited to introduce you to the latest beer that’s about to captivate your taste buds and transport you to the scenic landscapes of the Pacific Northwest – Douglas Lager! Nestled amidst towering evergreens, cascading waterfalls, and pristine rivers, Dougie draws inspiration from the region’s natural beauty to bring you an unparalleled lager experience.”

“We know there are other lagers out there, but we believe the PNW has a legitimate heritage and we’re proud of that. We wanted to honor that heritage by creating a new, easy-drinking lager that’s made here. We’re proud to announce an everyday lager with locally sourced ingredients that is brewed and bottled in the PNW.

The company is running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, offering the public opportunities to support the new project. Douglas Lager is expected to arrive at local Seattle-area bars and restaurants in September and thereafter will find its way across the entirety of Cascadia. 1. Do we know who will be the distributor in and around the area? Looking forward to getting this in at Skagit Valley Food Co-op where I am the beer buyer.

    1. Hopefully, they’ll have that info on their website as distribution widens. In the meantime, I’d reach out to them via social media, Instagram and Facebook — @douglaslagerbeer
