Ghostfish Brewing – 6th Anniversary Pastry Stout and Virtual Celebration



A new pastry stout and a virtual drink-up on March 19th mark the occasion

In 2015 Ghostfish Brewing shook up the beer world by elevating gluten-free beer to a place it had never been before. In those days, most beer geeks agreed that GF beers were typically not good beers, but Ghostfish Brewing changed the conversation. Just months after opening, the brewery won two coveted medals at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival, the nation’s most prestigious beer-judging competition.

Ghostfish Brewing’s approach was different than many of its GF beer predecessors. No shortcuts, no syrups, Ghostfish focused on making beers with malted grains that just happened to be gluten-free. You can read about the brewery’s approach to beer in the very first post I did about Ghostfish back when the brewery and taproom opened in 2015.

So here we are six years, many medals, and a lot of accolades later. Time to celebrate. The brewery’s beers are now available in 17 U.S states, two Canadian provinces, and the United Kingdom. It’s our turn for a pandemic birthday, and we say “put a cake in it”! After a year that changed everything and a virus still crippling communities around the globe, we could all use an escape. You can have your cake and drink it too in this decadent, silky smooth, full-bodied brew.

On the day of our sixth year of brewing, with a multi-layered gluten free chocolate cake in hand, we happily tossed it in the mash along with a full spectrum of roasted millet and rice malts and purity protocol gluten free oats. Lactose and molasses were added to the boil to bring out a baked-good like sweetness, then conditioned with liquid cacao and maple syrup oak barrel chips to bring out prominent notes of baker’s chocolate, slight nuttiness and hints of maple. With all that indulgent goodness, this pastry stout takes the cake. Make a wish!
