Flying Lion Brewing releases a beer to help its local community flourish

Not just for the community, but about the community

Flourish Community IPA is a philanthropic beer intended to benefit the community. Nothing new there, right? But what Flying Lion Brewing did this time is a bit different. Namely, it partnered with a neighborhood church to create a beer that celebrates and supports the things that make the local community great.

The beer represents an uncommon collaboration between Flying Lion Brewing and Flourish Church Rainier Valley. Together, they created a beer celebrating the strength and vibrancy of their South Seattle neighborhood.  With the intention of driving local business, they are offering Flouriush Community IPA to neighborhood bars and restaurants, at cost, while also using proceeds from the beer to support local, community-focused non-profits organizations.

“We believe that together, as a community, everyone can and deserves to flourish—while enjoying good beer at the same time!” said a press release from Flying Lion Brewing. “An African proverb best captures the spirit of this project: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’  TOGETHER, WE FLOURISH.”

The brewery describes Flourish Community IPA as a soft, citrusy, aroma-focused IPA available at 18 different businesses in the Columbia City and Hillman City neighborhoods. Each business will donate at least $1 per beer to a local, neighborhood non-profit of its choice. Keep an eye out for the posters at participating businesses.

“At Flourish Church, our mission is and always has been to see people and places flourish in the way God designed,” said Pastor Jevon Washington of Flourish Church. “This project is our faith in action to love our neighbors. Thank you Flying Lion for wanting to think big and do a project like this.”

“We owe our existence to this community,” said a statement from the brewery. “Not just our customers, but the collection of people that add up to more than the sum of their parts. To people like Jevon and his church who fight for each other, for all of us. To people who are dedicated to the universal flourishing of others.”

Flying Lion Brewing is a family operation in Columbia City, Seattle, conceived by four beer-loving brothers and their parents. It all started with root beer batches in the basement and dinner-table discussions about beer flavors and hop utilization. Years, beers, and many late nights later, they built the brewery they’d always dreamed of.

Flourish Church Rainier Valley is a confessional family of believers applying God’s justice to injustice & his shalom to chaos for human flourishing in Seattle’s Rainier Valley.
