Eastside Beer Week kicks off this Friday, July 22nd

Many years ago, I referred to the Eastside as a beerless wasteland. Okay, it wasn’t exactly beerless or a wasteland, but the Eastside was not exactly lousy with locally produced beers. That’s changed drastically over the past decade and today the area east of Lake Washington is chubby with great breweries. From Renton to Woodinville, Bellevue to North Bend, the eastern part of King County is now home to a lot of great breweries.

Eastside Beer Week kicks off on Friday, July 22nd to celebrate the region’s emerging, vibrant beer and brewing scene. “The Eastside Beer Week is a grassroots community partnership focused on celebrating craft beer on the Eastside and fostering a culture of giving that strengthens our neighborhoods,” says the official Eastside Beer Week website, where you can learn about all the events scheduled for this year’s celebration.

This Friday marks the release of the official Eastside Beer Week beer, East VS Zest, a citrus IPA brewed at Postdoc Brewing in Redmond. The official release is at Postdoc Brewing. Dick’s will be on site with their food truck, so you can get your fill of beer as well as Delux burgers. The official launch party starts at 4:30

Thereafter, several locations across the Eastside will offer the beer in cans. Check out the beer locator on the website to find out where to get it. It will also be on draft at select locations; that list is still coming together.

Events at breweries and other venues will fill the calendar from July 22nd thru July 31st. Here are a few examples of the kinds of events happening during Eastside Beer Week. Postdoc Brewing hosts a Coffee Beer Tasting, with five coffee-infused beers to sample, on July 24th. Also on July 24th, Dubtown Brewing hosts a 5k Run, or walk. Black Raven Brewing hosts Flight of the Raven on Tuesday, July 26–a paper airplane throwing contest. On July 30th, Valley House Brewing invites you to Steak Night, which is exactly what it sounds like: they are chargrilling steaks.
