Chuckanut Brewery opens its second location

In August of 2015 we reported that Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen of Bellingham planned to open a second brewery and taproom in Skagit County, near the Skagit Regional Airport. That new location is now open at 11937 Higgins Airport Way, Burlington, WA (map). Pictured above, Chuckanut Brewery’s new brewery and taproom, dubbed South Nut, while still under construction in July 2016.

This is an all-ages, beer-only establishment with food provided by local food trucks. Visitors are also welcome to bring food with them.

Chuckanut is bringing beer in from the Bellingham brewery while the finishing touches are put on the new brewery. By the way, the new brewery is twice the size of the Bellingham brewery: 20-barrel brewhouse compared to 10-barrel brewhouse. This means we will hopefully start to see more Chuckanut beers in the Seattle market.

Here’s the official announcement.

Chuckanut Brewery’s first establishment is the brewery and restaurant in Bellingham at 601 W Holly St will continue to serve fresh local American cuisine along with the world class Chuckanut beers. The new location’s lively, colorful Tap Room allows visitors viewing into the brewhouse from a large windowed wall. Beer by the taster glass, schooner, pint and liter is available on site and growler fills, kegs, and bottled beer is available to go. The beer garden outside is a great sunny spot to sit and enjoy one of WA state’s most celebrated craft beer. Visiting food trucks include Vagabond Southern Food on Wednesdays 3-7 pm, Pizzaza pizza Fridays 3-7 pm (noon-7 starting October 21), Rock n Rollin Eats Gourmet Hot Dogs Saturdays 12-7 pm. More food trucks will be visiting in the future.

Currently beer will be shuttled to the Burlington facility from Bellingham until production begins at the Skagit facility sometime in October or November. The Bellingham facility will continue to brew specialty beers once South Nut is on line. The Skagit brewhouse is a 20 bbl system as opposed to a 10 bbl in Bellingham making South Nut the big production brewery that will brew the more popular Chuckanut beer styles.
