Chuckanut Brewery Opening Second Brewery

We first heard about this plan some time ago, but decided not to share the news until Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen was ready to make the official announcement, which it did today. Chuckanut is opening a second brewery.

One of Washington’s most highly decorated breweries, Chuckanut Brewery is building a second brewery in the Skagit River Valley, near the Skagit Regional Airport. They’ll continue to brew beer and serve food at the Bellingham location, but the new brewery will allow them to brew larger quantities and increase their overall production numbers drastically. In addition to the production brewery, the new spot will feature a beer hall where you can enjoy Chuckanut beers, purchase kegs, fill growlers, and get bottles to go.

The current brewery in Bellingham has been operating at capacity (over 2,500 barrels per year) for some time. Chuckanut spent two years searching for a site large enough to build its new production facility, but with the help of the Port of Skagit decided on the location near the airport. They hope to have the new facility open in the spring of 2016.

Ground has been broken, with Will Kemper's supervision.

Chuckanut Brewery’s Skagit facility will be an 8,000 square foot building with room for the brewery, offices, and the beer hall. Already nicknamed South Nut, the new brewery will be capable of producing up to 13,000 barrels annually, with room for bottling.  Along with the beer hall, there will be a beer garden with outdoor seating and room for outdoor activities (cornhole, likely).

The smaller Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham (North Nut) will continue operations for small scale, research, and specialty beer production. South Nut will focus on the flagship beers Pilsner, Kolsch, and other styles needed in larger quantities.

Chuckanut’s South Nut is located in the Innovation Zone at the Port of Skagit, where Skagit Valley Malting Company, WSU Bread Lab, Skagit Valley College Brewery Program facility, and other businesses are currently located.

Also part of the Innovation Zone, Flyers Restaurant and Brewery just opened its second location, also at the airport. Read more about that here.
