Cheers and Farewell

Ian McDermott
Ian McDermott

The Washington beer scene recently lost a well-loved and respected friend. Ian McDermott passed away on October 19th in Springfield, Or. It was a short but well-fought battle with multiple organ failure that unexpectedly took Ian away from us at the age of 34. Ian was a Washington State Beer Judge who worked at Maritime Pacific, Hales Ales, Cellar Homebrew, and the Beveridge Place Pub.

Ian is survived by his wife, Wendy, of Eugene, OR, mother, Wendy Watson, of Holiday, FL, brother, Eric (Denise) Gorrell, of Portland, OR, sister, Marnie (George) Wentzler, of Tarpon Springs, FL, and grandmother, Ruth Smith of Fort Wayne, IN.

Ian’s family and friends would like to extend special thanks to the Eugene Fire Department, the staff at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend, and Strings of Compassion for the care they provided Ian in his last days.

At Ian’s request, there will be no services. A wake is planned for December 26th at the Beveridge Place Pub in West Seattle. To honor his memory, you are encouraged to do something kind for someone less fortunate than yourself.
