Celebrate International Women’s Day with the Pink Boots Society

For International Women’s Day (March 8th), why not hoist a pint in honor of women working in the beer industry? Actually, raise a toast to all women everywhere, but do it with a beer brewed for the occasion. The Pink Boots Society encourages you to find and enjoy beers brewed by its members. A lot of beers have already been brewed, and some beers are getting brewed today. Some are collaborations, and some are brewed by the women of a single brewery.

The stated mission of the Pink Boots Society is to assist, inspire, and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry through education. There are local chapters across the nation, including here in Washington. The Seattle chapter is brewing a beer at Bickersons Brewhouse as I write this (picture at top of post).

Below I provide a list of beers and events. It is not comprehensive. It’s just what I could find on social media and in my inbox.

Aslan Brewing

Aslan Brewing celebrates today at the Aslan Depot in Bellingham, including the release of Frauenbier. The women of Aslan got together to create a beer dedicated to every woman that has helped shape Aslan into what it is today, and to all the under-represented folks in this industry that have helped create a more inclusive place for all to work in. The name of this beer is Frauenbier. Frauen” meaning “women” and “bier” meaning beer, this schwarzbier is light, roasty, and approachable.

“The recipe includes a generous amount of modern fruity hops in addition to the Pink Boots hop blend, making an approachable and very drinkable DIPA with aromas of tangerine, ripe pineapple and peach, and flavors of papaya and citrus sprinkled with dankness. At first sip you’ll experience a smooth bitterness of yesteryear that soon evaporates off your tongue, leaving you yearning for another taste.”

Reuben’s Brews

WHO RUN THE WHIRL? GIRLS. “Here at our women-owned company, women proudly drive the development, brewing, and packaging for every beer we make. So for Women’s History Month this year, we decided to release a beer that proudly celebrates a team where women hold leadership roles in every department.”

“They created this Pale Ale to challenge the bias that brewing is a male profession and because we envision a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the entire industry. We also wanted to create something delicious. Brewed with Pale, Pilsner, and Crystal malt and hopped with a combination of Amarillo, Cashmere, Mosaic, and Simcoe, this beer is fragrant, fruity, and just plain fun.”

Womensplainer Pilsner – “A Pink Boots Collaboration and New Zealand Style Pilsner. The use of Pilsner malts such as Dextra Pils give the beer and light straw color, and dense white head.
