Camp Colvos Brewing opening a taproom in Tacoma

We just learned that Vashon Island’s Camp Colvos Brewing will open a new taproom in Tacoma’s historic Brewery District. The Tacoma taproom will be located on Commerce Street, in the Brewery Blocks project. Other breweries that already operate breweries and/or taprooms nearby include 7 Seas Brewing, E9 Brewing, and Black Fleet Brewing. Camp Colvos Brewing plans to open the new taproom in the summer of 2020.

“We signed a lease for a new taproom in the Brewery Blocks project in Tacoma,” says Camp Colvos founder and co-owner Matt Lawrence. “It’s 2,800 square-feet of awesomeness. The other folks moving into the building are great: Incline Cider, Bitterroot BBQ, and right next to us will be an ice cream joint.”

Camp Colvos Brewing has operated its taproom on Vashon Island since January of 2019. “We’re lucky to be nestled in between Seattle and Tacoma,” says Lawrence. “We see a lot of folks from Tacoma visiting the island. That helped us grow sure that there’s a demand for more beer there. We’re excited to be bringing ours to the city.”

“Opening a taproom in Tacoma has always been part of the plan. We wanted a brewery that really connects people with each other, with the beer, and with their community. The best way to do that is to have taprooms in two communities, on and off the island.”

Camp Colvos’ Tacoma taproom should boast 20 taps of Colvos beers, many of which will likely rotate with seasonal and one-off brews. Lawrence and his team also plan to offer a food menu to satisfy both snackers and those seeking a complete meal.

Also in keeping with the Vashon space, the Tacoma taproom will be family-friendly. “It’s important for us to be able to host everyone in the household. I’m a parent myself. Our owners and employees have kids. We know how positive an experience it can be when families can spend time together.”

Lawrence expects the Camp Colvos Brewing taproom to open before the peak of summer. The 2,800-square-foot space will include a patio, so guests will be able to enjoy beer and food indoors or outside.

  1. Great, i’ll look forward to camp Calvos opening… As long as you are in Tacoma mode, you do know about Sig brewery. right? They will be at 2534 Tacoma ave, opening at some point in 2020? Perhaps? They did a recent collab with Wingman called vestige of darkness, I think…
Wingman seems to be taking their name literally these days with regular collabs happening on a frequent basis. But, of course my favorite brewery in Tacoma is only open two days a week on Friday and Saturday; Tacoma brewing company, but their beer is always good and fresh…

  2. Oh no, another family friendly brewery in Tacoma which essentially means another brewery/daycare center. Parents love these big spaces to allow their “precious children” to run all over the place and create havoc. No more!
