Brewshed Brewfest – help protect one of beer’s key ingredients

Grain, hops, yeast and water. It’s a pretty simple formula, actually. Farmers and scientists create the first three ingredients, but we rely on Mother Nature for the water. The 5th annual Brewshed® Beer Fest on Saturday, June 9th is a benefit for Washington Wild that celebrates the connection between clean water sources and great beer.

For the fifth year, Washington Wild presents the Brewshed Beer Fest. The event takes place at Hale’s Paladium in Seattle and features over 40 beers and ciders from local producers. As a follower of this blog, which has always supported the Brewshed Alliance, you are eligible for a $5 discount on your tickets. Details below.

The participating breweries are Washington Wild Brewshed Alliance Partners — breweries that have pledged to support Washington Wild’s mission to protect wild rivers and the watersheds that provide the water used to make beer. Making up the Alliance, dozens of breweries are joined by local pubs and beer-focused restaurants that have signed on to support the cause. The Washington Beer Blog is proud to be part of the Brewshed Alliance, so take advantage of our discount code, go drink some beer and pop some balloons (read on).

Festivalgoers will vote for their favorite beer — the “Best in Brewshed” award. Festivities include a balloon popping fundraiser where attendees donate, pop a balloon, and win some swag.

The press release from Washington Wild describes it like this, “The Brewshed Alliance has grown substantially in the last five years, originally just including eight brewery partners in the Seattle area. Today, the Brewshed® Alliance boasts over 50 breweries and community partners from around Washington State. The program hosts over 30 events a year ranging from guided hikes, to tap take overs, to beer festivals. The program has raised tens of thousands of dollars annually for Washington Wild’s conservation work to protect intact forests, watersheds and sources of clean water through education and advocacy.”

“Washington Wild works hard to find common ground, both with traditional and nontraditional allies alike, in support of protecting wild lands and waters throughout the state. Washington Wild’s Brewshed Alliance helps people make the connection between protected waters and the superior downstream beer you can find in your pint glass in Washington.”

Pamela Brulotte of Icicle Brewing Company, one of the Brewshed Alliance Partners, says, “Our product—and subsequently our business—relies on our water source staying pure and clean, so naturally we want to voice our support of Washington Wild, Alpine Lakes and the Brewshed Alliance.”

Icicle Brewing Company sources their water from the nearby Icicle Creek, which was designated as Wilderness in 2014 as a part of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions – a 7-year campaign led largely in part by Washington Wild.

Last year this event raised over $7,000 for Washington Wild.
