Next in the ongoing series of collaboration beers from Bale Breaker releasing on February 16

It’s one of the best ongoing collaboration projects around. Maybe one of the best ever. The Frenz series of IPAs from Bale Breaker Brewing continues with the newest release scheduled for February 16, 2024. For this installment, the friends involved are three heavyweights from the Oregon beer scene: Breakside Brewery, Von Ebert Brewing, and Barley Brown’s.

All four of the breweries involved have earned serious accolades for their IPA prowess, among other things, so it is exciting that they’ve teamed up to create the latest iteration of Frenz IPA: a West Coast IPA.

“As we searched for breweries to team up with for our February Frenz release, it was clear to us that we had to bring our good friends from Barley Brown’s back into the mix,” explains Kevin Smith, co-owner and brewmaster at Bale Breaker. “Breakside was an obvious choice, given our shared passion for hoppy beers. And when we were looking for a brewery whose style resonated with our crew, Von Ebert immediately came to mind.”

The four breweries easily agreed to create a crushable West Coast IPA, but the brewers decided to take the recipe up a notch and showcase cutting-edge hop products. To create the core aroma and hop flavor, the brewers used a combination of Simcoe®, Chinook, and experimental HBC 630 hops. In addition to traditional T90 pellets and modern Cryo hop pellets, this version of Frenz IPA also features Simcoe® and Chinook YCH701–a high-oil aromatic liquid hop extract–to really get the hop aroma to pop.

“Our word of 2024: PARTY. If brewing beer isn’t fun, then we don’t want any part in it. So we’re making every brewday a party with as many brewing frenz as we can fit on the front of the can. Our first 2024 release celebrates Oregon’s vibrant beer scene with a classic PNW spin on a West Coast IPA from ourselves and a crew of Oregon breweries: Barley Brown’s, Breakside Brewery, and Von Ebert Brewing. Best enjoyed around a campfire on a rainy backpacking trip with frenz.”
